G'day all,

You are receiving this email because you are on the Carpentaria Link list and we want to get this to as many people across the Presbytery as possible.

Tropical Cycole Niran has formed off the Cairns coast. And while it is currently tracking away from the coast it is expected to stall as it intensifies. It is then expected to move off the coast and head off into the Pacific. Good Riddance!!

However, for those who have been long term residents of NQ you will know that a stalling cyclone can quickly turn back on itself. So now is not the time for complacency. Those who were in Cairns or the Cassowary Coast yesterday will attest to the destruction and road closures cause by sub-gale force winds. Garry himself barely got home to Atherton after flying in from Aurukun before the Kuranda, Gillies and Palmerston range roads were closed. So, a reminder to be cyclone aware and ready.

Currently, large areas of Cairns and the tropical coast are without power and there are no expected timeline for restoration If you are one of these people and you are receiving this on your mobile device, just be aware that the Presbytery does have a number of generators available. Contact Marie in the office if you think you may need one. In particular those who have medical reasons to keep medications cool in the tropical heat.

For those new to the region. Firstly, DON'T PANIC!!

Secondly, make sure you have your cyclone preperations ready and your yards are clear of anything that might become a piece of flying debris.

If you, or your family are anxious, do not cower at home alone. There are places you can go to and find refuge if you wish, including on the Atherton Tablelands where cyclonic conditions are usually far less. Our Presbytery has a good history of looking out for each other, so contact those who are alone or may be experiencing a cyclone for the first time and offer them your support and prayers. No-one will think less of you if you decide to seek safer ground even if this turns out to be another cyclone Kimi. "There is no condemnation in Christ"

Never take a cyclone for granted.

If there is ANY thing you need, please contact your zone chair or Marie, Christy or Garry and we will assist as we can.

Stay safe and dry.

Blessings

Christy, Garry and Marie.
