Cyclone Jasper is expected to cross the coast near Cairns sometime on Wednesday.

For those new to Carpentaria, I know this might be an anxious time and that's okay. For those who have been a round a bit, it's always easy to get a bit complacent. But remember, its not the wind that is often our worry, but the flooding and storm surge, particularly if the arrival of a cyclone coincides with the high tide. And no-one enjoys a tropical far-north night with no airconditioning when the power goes out!

So, make sure you are well prepared. Have plenty of water, some food stock, torches, batteries and a radio. Check on your neighbours and family (including your church family). If you feel better being with others, now is a good time to gather for a good old NQ cyclone party....in a safe space. There is always comfort to be found in a group. If you are in the Cairns area, there is always a bed available on the Atherton Tablelands where the effects will be less dramatic. The Presbytery does a few generators if required. But, remember, these will only power a fridge and a fan. Don't expect a generator for your whole house or church.

Anyway, be a prayer for those who may be directly impacted this week and for those far away who are often deeply concerned about us.
